Itinerary
1 Day Cooktown 4WD Adventure Tour
Journey deep into Far North Queensland on this action-packed day trip, crossing the Daintree River, tackling the iconic Bloomfield Track, and arriving in the historic gold-rush town of Cooktown.
Pick Up Times –Please note: return times may vary depending on conditions.
- 6:30am – Cairns City (returns approx. 7:30pm)
- 7:00am – Trinity Beach & Palm Cove (returns approx. 6:00pm)
- 7:45am – Port Douglas – IGA Bus Stop, Captain Cook Highway
Journey Overview
Travel north towards Port Douglas along one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives, before heading inland to Mossman for a morning tea stop at Daintree Tea & Coffee, complete with homemade scones in the heart of this picturesque sugar-producing town.
Cross the mighty Daintree River by ferry into the ancient Daintree Rainforest, keeping your eyes peeled for the elusive cassowary as you soak up the lush tropical scenery. Stop at Thornton Beach, where rainforest meets reef, for a leisurely stroll along the secluded shoreline.
From here, the adventure ramps up on the legendary 4WD Bloomfield Track — creek crossings, inclines and declines, and breathtaking scenery at every turn. Follow the Bloomfield River to Wujal Wujal for a memorable photo stop, then visit the historic Lions Den Hotel, established in 1875. Continue on past the James Cook Monument and the mysterious Black Mountains, gateway to the outback of Far North Queensland.
Lunch & Cooktown Exploration
Arrive in the charming, history-rich township of Cooktown. Take in sweeping views over Cooktown, the Endeavour River and Mount Cook from Grassy Hill Lookout, then enjoy a delicious lunch at the Sovereign Resort.
In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to wander Cooktown at your own pace and soak up its laid-back, historic atmosphere.
Departure
Gather for the journey home, heading back via the inland outback route. Along the way, stop at the geological marvel of Black Mountain, before continuing along the Mulligan Highway through the Palmer River Goldfields region and the outback landscapes of Far North Queensland — the perfect backdrop to reflect on a big day of adventure.
