Itinerary
Stop 1 – Lake Barrine National Park & Heritage Tea House including breakfast
A mere 1 hour drive inland from Cairns via the scenic Gillies Highway brings you to the cool atmosphere of the Atherton Tablelands, where you will come across a beautiful, enchanting natural lake hidden in World Heritage Rainforest. Lake Barrine is something special as it is actually a water filled crater left by a volcanic eruption approximately 10,000 years ago. Here we will have a full breakfast ‘Lake Barrine’ coffee or local tea at the charming 80 year old lakeside teahouse amongst beautiful terraced gardens.
Stop 2 – Winter & Mann – Yungaburra
Winter & Mann is a gorgeous store where community, sustainability, and family values seamlessly meld. The ethos revolves around championing the local community by partnering with over 140 remarkable businesses in North Queensland.
Here we taste an array of locally made and sourced produce with your host Anna explaining where everything is from and grown or made.
Stop 3 – The Australian Platypus Park at Tarzali Lakes
The Australian Platypus Park is home to a thriving platypus population. We take a wander down to see these wonderful creatures found in a spring fed pond surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, specially grown in accordance with the natural platypus habitats.
Lunch today is all produced in-house using only the freshest quality ingredients and include a selection of handcrafted smoked products and Crocodile , Red Claw (Yabby)and Kangaroo with fresh local salads topped off with a Tarzali Lakes boutique beer, Dragon Fruit cider, Lemon Myrtle tea and tastings of the Murdering Point Winery range. This menu is EXCLUSIVE to this tour and there is time to purchase some of the smoked products and sauces.
Stop 4 – Gallo Dairyland -Cheese and chocolate tasting
Next is the charming village of Atherton, where history meets beauty. As we traverse through this vibrant center, we’re greeted by a breathtaking tapestry of lush farmlands and undulating green hills. Our destination? A sprawling dairy farm spanning 1000 acres of fertile, crimson volcanic soil, where artisanal chocolates and gourmet cheeses are meticulously crafted.
Indulge in a tantalizing array of cheeses, each a testament to craftsmanship, and savor the exquisite Swiss-style chocolates that are as much a feast for the eyes as they are for the palate. While relishing these culinary delights.
Stop 5 – The Humpy
Tropical fruit and nut tasting.
The Humpy is the best place to go for freshly harvested Atherton Tablelands produce straight from the growers. Vegetables, tropical fruits and hundreds of different varieties of nuts, dried fruits, locally produced honey, jams and sauces. Here we taste some of the seasonal fruits and locally grown peanuts and macadamia nuts. There will be plenty of time to browse this quirky grocery store.
Stop 6 – Mount Uncle Distillery
Liquers and Spirit tasting.
As we head back to Mareeba, marvel at the kaleidoscope of crops that adorn the landscape, a testament to the region’s rich agricultural tapestry. We arrive at Australian Distiller of the year 2017, Mount Uncle Distillery, North Queensland’s first and only distillery. Here we taste some of their Award winning liqueurs and spirits. Take a wander round this stunning property nestled in coffee and banana plantations, with beautiful gardens and friendly animals.
Stop 7 – Emerald Creek Ice creamery
Our last stop is the family owned Emerald Creek Ice creamery.
Their Ice-cream is made on-site using pure cream and full cream milk. Sorbets (dairy free, full fruit) also made on-site using local Tablelands fruit.
Set on the balcony of their property we enjoy a cup of Jaques coffee and delicious scones with homemade strawberry and blueberry jam and cream and have a tasting of ice cream or sorbet unique to them.
