Introductory Diving – No Experience Required
Most diving day trips from Cairns include the option of an introductory dive, where a qualified instructor takes you down individually or in a small group after a short briefing on the boat. No certification or prior experience is required. A small number of trips, including the Reef Experience, even build a free introductory dive into the tour price alongside breakfast, lunch and hotel transfers.

Helmet Diving – No Swimming Required
The Green Island Seawalker Helmet Dive lets non-swimmers walk along the seabed in a dive helmet with no swimming ability required and your hair staying dry, making it a genuine alternative for guests who’d otherwise have to sit a dive out.
Best Dive Sites from Cairns
Moore Reef is the most commonly dived site, reached by Reef Magic, Sunlover Cruises and the Great Barrier Reef Fly-Cruise. For something further afield, the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs off Port Douglas are dived by the Calypso Reef Cruise, Quicksilver Cruises and Silversonic, with Silversonic visiting three separate Agincourt sites in a day. Ocean Spirit Cruises dives at Michaelmas Cay, and Down Under Cruise and Great Barrier Reef with Ocean Freedom both run a 2:1 diver-to-instructor ratio, the highest of any tour on this list, with up to 6 hours at the reef.
