Discover the true heart of Far North Queensland on an unforgettable Daintree Rainforest Tour through the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Stretching across 1,200 square kilometres, the Daintree is the largest continuous living tropical rainforest on Earth and a highlight of many Daintree Tours in the region.

Mossman Gorge is part of the traditional lands of the Kuku Yalanji people and is distinguished by crystal clear waters flowing over huge granite boulders, framed by rainforest clad mountains. Cape Tribulation is 110km north of Cairns where rainforest clad mountains meet the Great Barrier Reef, making it a must see destination for visitors planning to visit the Daintree Rainforest.

Many visitors also combine these experiences with Daintree Tours from Port Douglas to explore more of this remarkable rainforest region, or combine it with a Cairns tour package for a more seamless itinerary.

Whether you are joining a small-group guided tour or looking for something more flexible, a Daintree Rainforest day trip from Cairns is one of the most rewarding experiences in Tropical North Queensland — and one of the highlights most visitors say they would not have missed. I booked the two day Rainforest trip on the 23rd & 24th June. The scenery was breathtaking and we were treated to a river cruise where we spotted some famous local crocodiles :D Throughout the journey to the lookouts and the Daintree Rainforest, we were treated to some fascinating commentary by our guides on the history of the area. I would like to give special thanks and appreciation to John and Clinton who were very knowledgeable, humorous and looked after us all very well :) I opted to spend a night in the Rainforest and it was truly an unforgettable experience :)

Cairns Discovery Tours is such a wonderful company. They all were essential in giving us an unforgettable experience on our first trip to Cairns. Maryanne is so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in finding perfect excursions for us. Her Daintree Rainforest tour with the awesome Jeremey as our guide was truly amazing ! On top of all of this, everyone was so kind and helpful to recover and return to my wife a lost sentimental bracelet. I can not thank them all enough for making our vacation so special and memorable. You are all the best !

Frequently Asked Questions

The best Daintree tour depends on what you want out of the day. If you want a full day guided experience with a river cruise and rainforest walks, a small group tour covering Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation suits most first time visitors.

Travellers wanting more flexibility or privacy often prefer a private tour, while those combining the Daintree with the reef benefit from a 2-day package. As a local booking agent with 30+ years in Cairns, we compare tours across several trusted operators and match you to the one that actually suits your dates, budget, and interests.

Without a doubt. The Daintree is one of the world’s oldest living rainforests and a UNESCO World Heritage site it predates even the Amazon. Travelling north of Cairns, you cross the Daintree River by ferry and enter a landscape that feels truly ancient. The combination of dense rainforest, crocodile-inhabited rivers, wildlife, and the meeting of reef and rainforest at Cape Tribulation makes it one of Far North Queensland’s most memorable experiences.

A day tour covers the highlights well including Mossman Gorge, a river cruise, Cape Tribulation Beach but you’re on a schedule the whole time. You get an evening and morning in the rainforest, when the light, the sounds and the wildlife are completely different from the middle of the day. If you’ve got the time,  it’s a genuinely a different way to experience the Daintree Rainforest. Overnight Daintree tours have limited spots compared to day tours, so it’s worth booking ahead if you’d like to go this route.

Yes, a single day tour from Cairns can comfortably cover both the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. Tours typically include a Daintree River cruise, guided walks in the rainforest, lunch, a visit to Mossman Gorge, and time on the beach at Cape Tribulation, before returning to Cairns in the evening. Tours depart Cairns 7.00am Port Douglas 8.30am and return Port Douglas 5.30pm – Cairns 6.00-7.00pm approx

Daintree tours offer excellent wildlife spotting opportunities including estuarine crocodiles on the river cruise, cassowaries, native birds, butterflies, and a huge variety of tropical flora. Guided rainforest walks provide insight into the ecology of one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems, and some tours include a traditional smoking ceremony or Indigenous cultural experience.

Most Daintree day tours include at least one of these  and many include both. The Daintree River cruise is a highlight, offering excellent chances to spot crocodiles and birdlife from the water. Guided rainforest walks at locations like Mossman Gorge or Cape Tribulation bring the ancient rainforest to life with the help of a knowledgeable local guide.

Light, breathable clothing is recommended, along with comfortable closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on rainforest tracks. Insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat and a refillable water bottle are all advisable. If you plan to swim at Cape Tribulation or Mossman Gorge, bring your swimwear and a towel. During the wet season, a light rain jacket is a good idea.

The Daintree is beautiful year-round. The dry season May toOctober, offers pleasant weather and easier access on some roads. The wet season November to April brings spectacular green growth and lush, flowing rivers, but some areas may be affected by heavy rainfall. Tours operate year-round. Quite spectacular to see the Daintree Rainforest in the rain…..
