Daintree & Cooktown Tours

What makes the Daintree & Cooktown tours so special? At around 1,200 square kilometres, the Daintree is a part of the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent. The Daintree National Park is comprised of two sections—Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation. The crystal-clear waters of the Mossman River cascade over granite boulders in Mossman Gorge while Cape Tribulation features rainforest-clad mountains that sweep down to long sandy beaches, where the Reef meets the Rainforest. Explore both these areas on your tour of Discovery to the Daintree Rainforest.
**Due to ex-tropical cyclone Jasper, in December 2023, Cooktown Tours will be unable to access the Bloomfield Track and Cooktown Tours will not be operating until further notice

Cooktown is close to my heart as I owned and operated Adventure North Australia, Cooktown 4WD Adventures for 15 years, and sold the company in May 2019. Cooktown is a unique, off the tourist beaten-track destination and well worth the visit.
Cooktown is 246km north of Cairns via the 4WD only Bloomfield Track through the heart of the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest. One of Australia’s most historically significant townships, Cooktown is the location where lieutenant James Cook spent almost seven weeks repairing his vessel the HM Bark Endeavour.
The facts as to his rank are that James Cook was a lieutenant on his first voyage, during which he sailed to Australia on the Endeavour 1768-1771. On his next Voyage he was promoted to Commander on the (Resolution 1772-1775)
Some of the most extraordinary discoveries and interactions with local Aboriginal people occurred in Cooktown in 1770 but….the history is just the beginning! Cooktown provides something for everyone including exquisite botanic gardens, heritage-listed buildings and museums, beaches, waterfalls, and Aboriginal Rock Art Tours. A truly unique Far North Queensland travel destination.

This full-day tour for those being picked up in Cairns and the beaches begins with a trip along the scenic coastal Great Barrier Reef Drive to Port Douglas. The road hugs the mountain side, and we stop at Rex Lookout to enjoy stunning views of the Coral Sea. From here, we continue to Port Douglas, picking up any extra guests and stopping at Flagstaff Hill, which overlooks the famous 4 Mile Beach.

The next stop is Mossman Gorge, where we refresh with local tea, coffee or a cold drink, before exploring this secluded gorge and rainforest paradise. The cool, clear waters of Mossman River tumble through and over giant granite boulders. We’ll take a guided walk, and you have the opportunity for a swim, should you wish to do so.

We then continue north to the Daintree Tea House and enjoy a quality restaurant lunch, with a choice of meals available, before stepping aboard a solar-powered electric boat to take a 1-hour cruise on the Daintree River. Keep your eyes peeled for crocodiles and other local wildlife.

Not accessible until further notice
Driving on to the Daintree River Cable Crossing, it’s a short ride over and into the ancient Daintree Rainforest. Alexandra Lookout provides panoramic views over the Daintree River and out to the Coral Sea. We then wander beneath the ancient rainforest trees on a guided botanical walk, learning more about the biodiversity of the amazing ecosystem.

Cape Tribulation not accessible until further notice
Cape Tribulation is where the rainforest meets the reef, and you can take it all in from the Kulki Lookout. This is the most northern point of our day tour adventure, so from here, we begin the journey home, but not before a quick stop at the Daintree Ice-Cream Company, where you can purchase locally made tropical ice cream (at your own expense)
